1) Before you can respond to any emergency call the following requirements must be met.
a. You must have attended at least 2 regularly scheduled training meetings.
b. You must have at least 40 hours of training. This training must be a combination of attending regular scheduled training and time spent working with the paid fire staff. A minimum of 10 hours is required working with paid staff, and the time must be spent with each of the 3 shifts. Once this is completed, proof will be presented to the chief for his approval. The chief reserves the right to add additional time to the 40 hours as deemed necessary.
c. You may respond to an emergency call while doing your station training as long as the on-duty firefighter in charge allows it. This duty firefighter will take responsibility for you.
d. You may not respond to medical calls without a mentor or a VFD officer present. This is true even if you already hold a Nevada approved EMR, EMT, A-EMT license. After your probationary period, you will be evaluated by the EMS Captain and Fire Chief to determine if you are ready to respond to medical calls without a mentor or VFD Officer.
e. The minimum qualification to respond to medical emergencies is EMR recognized by the State of Nevada, and a current CPR certification.
f. Responding to violent medical calls requires a minimum qualification of Emergency Medical Responder (EMR). If you do not have this qualification and are a probationary member you are not permitted to respond unless the Incident Commander (IC) allows it.
2) Once you have completed your probationary requirements you will become an Active Member and the following items will be issued to you:
a. Structure Fire Fighting Gear
b. VFD Pager
c. SCVFD T-Shirt and Hat
d. VFD Identification Number
3) Once you have completed either a Firefighter I course or the Basic Wildland Firefighter course and are an Active Member you will be eligible for a VFD handheld radio, availability permitting.
4) To achieve Active Member status and to remain an Active Member you must comply with the following attendance requirements:
a. You must attend at least 3 training meetings per quarter.
i. If you are unable to attend training meetings for legitimate reasons (see by-laws) you must inform the chief.
b. Business meetings are not required unless you hold a board office or are an officer. However, if you want to attend business meetings you are always welcome.
c. You must respond to as many calls as possible when you reach your active member status. The number of calls will vary depending on your training and the call volume for the time period.
5) Appropriate clothing must be worn at all times.
a. Proper PPE will be worn on all emergency calls.
6) You will not be allowed to operate emergency apparatus without the proper license and training and approval by the chief.
